RedHat 7.2 KControl Problem

Hi!

I'm a newbie to Linux and to this group as well.

I have a query. After I created a user for RedHat 7.2 in KDE mode, I deleted a file named desktop from the desktop thinking it's just any other shortcut as Windows. Now the KControl doesn't show anything for the user. There are 3 desktops which are no longer different after the deletion of that file.

I guess these problems can be solved once I get that desktop file. But the question is how do I do it, where to find that file.

I hope somebody 'll bail me out of this as I really want to customize the Linux through KControl.

Thanx,
vj

"But the question is how do I do it, where to find that file."

KDE will recreate the desktop for you if you do this:

log in as root
delete /home/user/.kde ( may be /home/user/.kde3)
log in as user

delte and then login?

Will that not delete all the other files, mails and settings for the user?

"Will that not delete all the other files, mails and settings for the user?"

Deleting /home/user/.kde will delete all of the KDE settings (some of which you have lost already). It will not delete the other files, mails, and user data files.

Note: I am talking about deleting the directory called /home/user/.kde

I am not talking about deleting /home/user or /home

Thanks Steve. I got it. I might probably fix it.

Steve: Thanks a zillion. I got my KControl back. I renamed the old KDE and copied my settings from there.

Master C: Advice noted moderator. But thanks for the URLs in your signature. I guess they'll be of immense help.
