Smile RedHat 6.1 Enterprise through VMware on Windows 7

Yes I am a newbie but here goes anyway, please dont bite !

I've downloaded a eval copy of Redhat Enterpise server to my laptop running Windows 7. Managed to get a basic install of RedHat running in VM but the questions I have are:

Setting up networking from Redhat through the VMWare instance. How is this done ? I see the config is set for dhcp on Redhat Server but I'm getting no IP address on eth0. Do I have to setup static IP addresses or is there a setting on VMware I need to change ?

Second question
Getting my laptop to act as a Xwindows client for the VMWare instance. Am I correct to understand that I simple download Cigwin for Windows and I will be able to see the grphical display from my RedHat Server VM Instance ?

Third question
I simple want to have a test platform for getting ready for RHCE Exams. I prepared to pay for support for desktop. Where do I download this and would this be an acceptable environment for practise purposes.

Looking forward to your replies.

I'd ditch RHEL-6 and use a full install of Centos-5.6 (or Scientific Linux-6) as they're functionally equal to RHEL, just w/o vendor branding and support.

VMware documentation (doing research and reading should be or become second nature) states there's a couple of options for networking: host-only, private subnet and bridge mode. The latter you'd use if you give the VMware clients MAC address a DHCP lease on your physical LAN subnet, a private subnet should work well enough for you.

Why would you? Just use the VMware client package. Note VMware has VNC support. Also note you can make a RHEL/Centos/SL text mode installer emit a VNC port, so if you don't want to use the VMware client package you could use full screen VNC for installation and use. No need to muck with the Xwindows protocol as in say Xming or it's commercially licensed counterparts.

I wouldn't pay for it. Just create a new thread and ask (preferably detailed) questions. Note RHEL comes with lots of documentation so the basics you should find at redhat.com like http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Re...ide/index.html and http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Re...ide/index.html.
