Red Hat On Dl360 G5
 

Hello,

I want to know if is possible to install red hat 7.3 on Hp proliant DL360 G5, because when i start the installation the installing CD doesn´t recognize the hard disk.

RH 7.3 is to way to old to have out of the box support for SAS or SATA controllers.
Is there some reason like a legacy application where you are forced to use RH 7.3 or is it possible to install a more recent distribution like CentOS or Fedora?

If you put in an IDE PCI adapter in one of the expansion slots and connected an IDE hard drive to that you might be able install Red Hat 7.3 (if the kernel supported your IDE adapter). But to access the rest of the hardware, you would need to upgrade to a very new kernel. You would probably have to compile the kernel from source, due to the fact that 7.3 is no longer actively supported by Red Hat.

Even if you got all of that working, your kernel would not support all of the nifty features of a 64-bit processor, because you would be compiling your kernel with gcc v2.95.

If you really need access to Red Hat 7.3 on that server, you could install a recent version of Red Hat with virtualization support and run 7.3 in a virtual machine.
