red hat new instalation is asking for login\password,

when prompted at startup for red hat im being asked for password. i am typing "root"-enter, then it asks me for my password but wont let me type it how do i sort this out

Just type your password followed by Enter. You are not supposed to see anything.

sounds like your set with the text login (a good thing)

now type:

you'll then see the gui.
