red hat linux install help needed
 

hi this is probly a stupid question but im trying to go from windows xp to red hat linux ive downloaded all 3 cds extracted and burnt the iso file but it will not boot into installaton when i restart my pc. so after reading the docs i restarted in msdos mode and typed

d:\
cd dosutils
autorun

this started installation but after asking my keyboard lanuge asked me for Red ht linux disk1 so then i made the boot disk and at the same place was asked to insert the disk.

anyone know why this is happening?

Have you tried changing your BIOS to boot from the CD-rom 1st when booting??

yes ive changed all that i have to boot win98 setup and then exit halfway to get into dos mode on damn xp

I don't understand. You are booting Win98 to get into DOS mode on WinXP??

What is currently installed on your comp? Do you have a current working dual boot of Win 98 and WinXP and want to install Red Hat 9 in addition to these??

I think its time to back up and get all the information so we know what you have already and any and all error messages you are getting so I and others can try to help further.

I have the following installed:

hda : Lite-On CD-RW
hdb : WinXP, Mandrake 9.2
hdc : Fedora Core 1, FreeBSD
hdd : SuSE 9.0

All these boot from one GRUB bootloader located on the MBR of hdb (with Windows and FreeBSD using the chainloader command to boot).

One other thing, have you checked the MD5sum's of the ISO's to make sure they are correct.

Shut the machine off. Insert the "disk 1" Redhat CD and turn the PC on. If your box is set to boot off the CD - and - the CD is a non-USB CDROM then the redhat install should start automatically.

Press return at the boot: prompt and you'll be up and running in no time. The install will prompt you to select how to partition the hard drive. If you have free space available for Linux you can tell it to remove/use all free space. In this scenario Red hat will see windows is installed on the drive and automatically setup grub to allow you to boot either red hat or winslow each time you boot the box.
