Red hat Linux 9.0 upgrade
 

Hi,

I am running a publisher's edition of Red Hat, and I was thinking of up grading to a more current version of Linux like The Fedora core 4 that comes with the book.Do you think this would be the way to go.

I don't know what your system looks like, but I will say go for the newest version of Fedora which is Core 5.

For books about Fedora Core 5 or Linux in general you can look at your local store or checkout online bookstores as Amazon.

Of course (almost) every Linux Distribution comes with extensive help and manuals (see the man funtion).

Alternative I can advice OpenSuse 10.1 if you look for something else outside the Red Hat clan. Suse is different then Red Hat but still gives you the same feeling.

Definitely upgrade from RH9, since it is old and unsupported. (And wasn't that good when it was new :)).

If you are comfortable with Redhat, then go with Fedora Core 5. It has a similar feeling, and most things are still in the same sort of places.

Alternatively, Ubuntu is an excellent distro. It is different from Redhat, but you should be able to pick it up quite quickly.

RH officially ended support for Redhat 9.0 sometime in 2004 or so, IIRC. It's no longer a valid distro; switch to anything else
