Red Hat/Fedora


Whats the difference between Red Hat and Fedora besides that Red Hat is better?

Hi Vinn3Bo1, welcome to lq. The main difference as I understand it is that fedora is a test platform for future additions to redhat. Redhat seems to be focused on the server market, so fedora is the desktop version. Hope that answers your question.

In a nutshell, what was once Redhat linux is now Fedora and they do not support its version 9 with updates or security fixes anymore.

If your looking for a free Redhat enterprise version then checkout white box or CentOS.

or RHEL 4 is out in beta form.. free for download and updates until the final is released.. which is 6+ months away probably... It's also quite stable as-is.. I like it.. You can indeed see some features from Fedora that have been incorporated...
