red hat book commendation ?
hi linuxers,
I'd like to learn to install and configure the redhat. thus, I want to get a handfull redhat handbok (english)from a beginner to advanced user. what's the most recommended redhat handbook mainly for a fresh user? I mean a book which is very easy to learn not only for geeks. best regards. |
Unless you have a lot of money to pay for RHEL, install CentOS. Basically, it's a clone of RedHat without logos and a few proprietary programs.
http://www.centos.org/ and then you can follow the installation tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/installati...tos5.1-desktop some more tutorials http://wiki.centos.org/ http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz http://tldp.org/ If you are going to use linux for work or home server, CentOS is an excellent choice. If you just want to use it as a desktop computer at home, Fedora 9 would be more usable. hth |
I second CentOS. Best distro ever, aside from the actual Red Hat! I just don't understand why Cent OS isn't more commonly used.
I would recommend the Michael Jang book on the RHCE exam. Even though you aren't going for your RHCE, it teaches you a lot about Linux, and specifically, about Red Hat. |
