RED HAT 9 start up.

Hello,

My question might seem very simple to most all of you (just installed red hat yesterday first time ever using linux), but here it goes. The question is when i boot up my computer it goes through a series of system checks...it goes through them and say if it's ok or it has failed..all say ok but is it normal for me to see that...or should that not happen.

That's just how Red Hat starts up, perfectly normal.

Thank you

Don's worry! It is perfectly normal.
You'll get used to seeing it every time you boot!

I kinda actually enjoy seeing it "initializing random number generator"

With linux is it possible to install other software? Like video games, for instances, warcraft and others like that

Sumit Rajan 08-08-2003 12:14 PM

JCue:

Of course, you can install other software in Linux. Just one problem: you won't find as many choices as you would if you were using Windows.

The situation is improving, though. These days just about anything you want has a Linux version/equivalent.

jcue 08-08-2003 12:18 PM

That sound great..even if i can't i'll just install it on windows anyways. I have them both on my computer. I've only had Red hat for about a day but it seems really cool...

I used WineX to run Warcraft 3 before, run's fine except for the curser is not the hand for the race you're using, rather the crosshair-like curser used when casting spells. I also ran some other games on it too, forget what they were though cause it was a while ago...

jcue 08-08-2003 12:39 PM

that suck but i guess i'll get use to the cursor.

jcue 08-08-2003 03:19 PM

what are the system requirments for red hat 9

peace 08-08-2003 03:38 PM

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...teps-type.html

^ will give you harddrive requirements. For RAM, you will be ok if you have 64 megs or more... maybe 32 if you are just using console, I'm not sure about that though.
