I'm really new to Linux (2 days...) and new on this forum!
Here is the problem :
I installed Red Hat 9
on my PII 400 Mhz, with 256 Mo RAM and a Geforce3. Everything went well (quite everything at least...
) but now I want to install my HP Laserjet 1300 which is on my XP Pro computer
(on my home network). I use the "assistant" to do this, Red Hat seems to find my XP and the printer share, but then, when I need to install the correct driver, I find no driver for the Laserjet 1300...
I went on HP.com, but there are no drivers (old M$ reaction...) for Linux. Then I went on linuxprinting.com and I found some .ppd file for the HP 1300. But now's the problem...what should I do with this file???? On the site, they talk about CUPS and Foomatic, but all of this is a bit confusing for my disturbed M$ brain...
can someone help me?
thank you very much!
Another thing (1) : When I start Red Hat, just after the log in page, I have this message : "Could not lookup for internet address for dhcppc2. This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding dhcppc2 to the file /etc/hosts."
. My computer (DHCPPC2) is DHCP client, the address is good when I check it and I checked the hosts file but I don't know what to add, because in this file you can only add static mappings (if it's like in M$ ). How can I prevent this message? And how can I change the name of my computer?
Another thing (2) : how do I access...hum...the floppy drive...hum...please?
