Red Hat 9 boot problem

I'm just starting out in Linux and I seem to have a boot problem. I'm running Red Hat 9 dual booting with Win2000. The OS seems to install just fine but when I remove the disks and reboot the following problem occurs:

The program goes through its boot up, displaying its laundry list of what happening until it gets to the line
apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.16)
_

The program then stops and the flashing cursor appears where I put the underscore. Not knowing enough about Linux, what comes next in load that is causing the lock up? Thanks for your time.
