Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Have just installed red hat 8. The desktop flickers continually with horizontal lines running down the screen and the background is pixelated is somewhat chunky and jagged. Also next to the pointer on the left is is a black striped rectangle that move with the pointer The install detected the s3 virge video card but in the list for monitors it did not list my compaq p50. I selected the generic compaq svga monitor. I have been into the setting and made some changes in vert and horiz refresh rates to no avail.
If I need special drivers for these (by the way what is the correct term to use for drivers in linux) where is the best on line site.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated. I am trying to escape the microsoft monopoly.
I tried to install linux on this old system some time ago and experienced the same problems so did not proceed, however this time I would really like to get it up and running to check out the stability and capabilities of open source OS.
