RE: RED HAT 7.1 ... how to set up quota for group
You didn't give much in the way of error messages, but just to make sure you're set up right I'll give you some info on group quotas, Ok? :-)
Partitions needing group quota support should have the "grpquota" option in the /etc/fstab file, just like the "usrquota" option . NOTE: it is acceptable to have both options enabled. For example, if /dev/hda5 is mounted to the /home directory and you want that directory to have group quotas, the /etc/fstab entry would be similar to this:
/dev/hda5 /home ext2 defaults,grpquota 1 1
The Quota Database:
Create the database files to store the user and group quota information. These files are empty, they are positioned at the root of each partition to have quotas, they should be readable only by the root user, and they must be named "quota.user and quota.group". To create these files with the appropriate permissions, use the su command to become the root user, go to the root of the partition, and use hte "touch" command to create the files necessary to hold the quota database. For example, to set quota controls over /dev/hda5, which gets mounted to /home, use the "cd" command to go into the /home directory and type the following:
chmod 600 quota.user
chmod 600 quota.group
Now you're ready to configure individual quota settings.
Hopt this helps.
