recovering formatted data

I formatted the wrong partition by accident. The original filesystem was reiserFS and I formatted it with ReiserFS. Since I have formatted it, I have made an image of the drive and of course unmounted it to prevent further read/write.

How would one recover their files on a reiserFS? I hope the files are still there...

THanks,
Walter

it was ReiserFS and you formatted it wrong with ReiserFS?
I think if you did format it, you are screwed cause formatting first and foremost totally annialates all file tables so sorry dude; its toast.

I read somewhere that it might be recovered doing this:

reiserfsck --rebuild-tree

here:

http://astcomm.net/pipermail/linux/W...07/003919.html

there they say that you can regenerate the index. For clarity, the original filesystem was reiserFS, and it contained about 6 GB of data. At the time I formatted it, it was mounted as /mnt/files. It was formatted with reiserFS, and after I realized that I formatted that drive and not the other, I quickly mounted it RO and made an image of that drive, then unmounted it to where I am now.

recovering lost data on reiserFS

I ran reiserfsck --rebuild-tree -S and was able to recover the files. As long as you don't write new data to the drive after reformatting it, it appears that data can be recovered fairly easily.

data is always useable after deletion.... unless you scramble it all with eaast-tec eraser.
