If it has actually been overwritten it is unrecoverable.
If it has been unlinked (deleted) and the data remains in unwritten "free space" then recovery is possible.

You will need to stop using that partition immediately or risk it really being overwritten.

+1 for Testdisk.

If Testdisk doesn't work, Photorec from the same developers may do so - it looks at the underlying raw data in order to recover files. In either case, save any restored files to another drive.
