Recover disk space after deleting files

Hello there,

I'm pretty new to linux and have been having this one problem for about a month or so and can't seem to figure it.
I have a old PC which i have had setup as a file server, just running Red Hat 9 and samba. Everything was working fine (for over a year) until i got myself a mac 6 weeks ago. I noticed that i was starting to run out of disk space, so deleted some things off the server over the network via a PC snd the files deleted and became free space that i could use again. I tried to do the same thing but from my mac a couple of days latter, the files appeared to delete, well you can't see them or access them but the space they had taken up was not recovered. I repeated this a couple of times to check it out and every time i deleted something off my server over the network via my mac, i could not recover the space when deleting files.

So i have two questions. Does anybody know why this is happening and how would i go about getting back the space from the files i have already deleted. At the moment the amount of lost space is approx 15GB.

Is there a script or progrsm that woul find all these broken files and remove them for me?

Thank you in advance

Fran
