Recompiling a Kernel to contain a few things?

Hey guys,
I've been wanting to switch over to linux painlessly, since last time I tried it was disastrous.

I have the infamous Broadcom Wireless card 4306, and I would like to have Beryl preloaded. Is it possible to reconfigure stuff on the install disk to make this possible?

I am a complete newb at this so.. any help would be appreciated.

Anything is possible with linux. It may depend on what distro and version you wish to use. The Broadcom will work with ndiswrapper and the inf windows driver. As for Beryl you will more than likely need to install after you install the distro. The forums at beryl can help alot. If you search them for the distro you have it will usually have many post on installing on that distro. Just take it one step at a time. It is not all point and click in Linux.
