Recommendations for Anti-Virus on low-spec Linux machines plz

Hi,

I've got a low-spec Linux machine (1gb RAM, P4) and i'd like to experiment with some anti-virus programs as i am in a Windows network and to catch email attachment viruses too.

I know there's quite a lot to choose from, but i'm specifically interested in recommendations for low-spec PCs.

I've tried ClamAV and it was rubbish, the amount of false positives it reported made me stop running it before it had even completed one sweep. I've seen Comodo before but it's recommendation is 2gb RAM(!).

Thanks in advance.

The problem is that Linux gets so few virus attacks (that work) that nothing really works. Now scanning windows files for problems does work. That is what ClamAV should be used on, not the native Linux files.

I know. I want to be able to scan for Windows viruses from Linux. Clam sucked at it (see previous post).

They all suck at it.

It is impossible to defend against the virus you haven't seen... The only fix is to fix the original problem. And see to it that it stays fixed.

Unfortunately, Microsoft can't seem to do either task.

To elaborate a bit on what jpollard is saying: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-day_attack

Microsoft vulnerabilities are often unpatched for weeks, months, or even years.

And ClamAV will find things that Norton and/or McAfee miss
