recommend me a distro, here's my specs

this is going on an HP centrino laptop... G wireless.

I care about only a few things:

email (multiple pop accounts)
aim/gaim/trillian
internet browser
remote desktop
wireless would be great... again centrino

those are the things I NEED. I'd like something that generally follows a 'linux standard' i.e. I don't want something I'm goign to learn on, and not know or be able to do anything with anything else... I've heard lindows is like this.

Any distro will do that. Those are programs you can install on any distro. Check the sites and see if you like one as well. Most people will tell you to use their favourite distro (:P)
The wireless can be done as well if you can't figure it out check the wireless networking forum with any questions you have.

Most distribution has their own list.

http://www.websamba.com/Linux_Docs_Links
-> Hardwares
-> Hardware Compatibility

You might also benefit in looking at

-> Distributions
-> General

I agree with the others. Almost any distro will do for what you want.

I personally prefer Conectiva 10.

However I am posting this message to you via Simply Memphis 2004. 04 live CD.

Give Memphis Live a try you may like it.

I also recommend Knoppix.

Good Luck
