receive error when trying to locate files.

$ locate gcc
warning: locate: could not open database: /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db: No such file or directory
warning: You need to run the 'updatedb' command (as root) to create the database.
warning: locate: Could not find the group: slocate in the /etc/group file.
fatal error: This is a result of the group missing or corrupted group file.

So I switched to root and ran updatedb. this is what i got.

# updatedb
warning: updatedb: Could not find the group: slocate in the /etc/group file.
fatal error: This is a result of the group missing or a corrupted group file.

Any idea on how to fix the corrupted group? I vi into the file and everything looks normal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't have thought you would have needed to, but try adding an slocate group to the groups file. You could also try upgrading locate... some of the old versions are incompatible with new db's, not that this should really be a problem with Fedora however.

Good luck though...
