Wifes hard drive dissapeared! If I had a MBR file of first 64 sectors of the OEM 320 G hard drive could I dd the MBR if hard ware can access the hard drive?
At this time netbook recognizes my hard drive but not otherway? So what can smoke a 30 day old WD320G hard drive where it can not be seen by BIOS? Even dead drives do not come up as nothing there. Seeing my wife uses this for college courses sending in for warranty is third option. My drop dead date is this Thur.

If the drive shows not up in the BIOS it is dead. If the electronic died on the drive this can happen. That is just a common risk, can happen anytime and without any warnings.
Send it in for warranty.

Drive is just captive in case not screwed down. Just trying to retrieve stuff from drive. Bios does not show record of my harddrive and the drive listed but would not spin up once. Would the spin up option make a difference? I went looking for the sub miniture jumper until I learned it was scater and soft spin up typing in dark daughter on shoulder and I type with 1 hand anyway lol

Sorry, but it is very hard to understand what exactly is happening on your side:
- Is the disk recognized from the BIOS?
- Is the disk spinning up at boot time?
- Which spin up option do you mean?
- Which jumper do you mean?

Hard drive in wifes netbook half way shows up in bios but not boot. So did the R&R thing swapped both drives: netbook drive did not show up in my bios my drive did not save in her bios. So if I do something stupid like pull the thumb drive after booting the harddrive shows on screen as a boot device. Hoping to recover video of 11 month old daughter dancing made with camera on netbook. So while I try easy peasy to boot from usb while waiting for harddrive replacement. Can a virus make a Win7 hard drive dissapear? Any suggestions would be appreciated .
