Reattach X session

If I am in a X session and I press Ctrl+Alt+F2, I get a console session. Then if I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go back to my X session I get another new console session. If I type "who" at the command prompt I can see my X session listed as user :0. If I type "startx" I get the error that display 0 already has an X session. How can I resume my original X session? Thanks! Mike
