Really silly question...

I have a .patch file (I'm following the linuX-gamers.org guide to getting my mx1000 working) and I have no idea what to do with it.

If I double click, it opens in a text editor.

Anywho, this is probably really basic but what am I supposed to do with this thing?

patch file is basically a guide to changing some file on your system. there is a 'patch' utility that understands and executes .patch files. I would highly suggest you familiarize yourself with it (man patch)

Alternatively, you can apply the patch manually by just reading .patch file and figuring out what it does. The downside is of course that it will take a long time for a large patch and everything is manual thus errors might occur.
