My sound in Linux is really really really quiet. With my speakers cranked I still hear barely a tinkle here and there -- but most of the time the background noise of my home drowns out whatever teensy sound there may be. I know I have sounds installed, because I can hear them -- I just really have to listen for them. But when I go into Windows2000 (on the same machine), the sound blares because I've got the speakers turned up so high (on the physical speakers themselves). Where would I go from inside Linux to make it so I can actually hear the system sounds? The sound 'chip' installed is soldered to the mobo (it's a Compaq box). It sees the chip, and plays the sound, just in mouse-like decibles. Any ideas for me to try? Thank you in advance. You are all so very helpful
I'm quite embarrassed to say I have not yet found exactly where that internal volume is located within Linux. (Using RedHat 7.1). I have looked at several different panels and have yet to find an actual slider volume (I'm assuming that is what I am looking for, similar to a Windows "main volume" slider?). If you could point me in the right direction, I'll check that when I get back to my Linux system.
nothing happen?
are you sure? sometime the mixer doesn't appears but you will see his "icon" in the right side of the taskbar.... double click on it or right click to restore it...
Or if you are in Gnome or KDE (either one) you can open a Xterm and type:
aumix OR
gmix OR
kmix
Any one of these will open a for you to "slide" your volume up and down.
