read only file system
hi all,
while starting linux (suse 8.2) i get the message "read-only file system" (actually pretty often). when i try to log in as root (or any other user), i get the message "modprobe:modprobe:Canīt locate module char-major-180". before all this i have fiddled with smb.conf, inetd.conf and made a startsmb (to start smbd and nmbd) at the moment i am able to login with linux single and managed to delete that startsmb, i changed inetd.conf and smb.conf to their originals back (i think). when i first had those troubles logging in i had noticed that the CPU-fan had not rotated anymore and so i have exchanged the CPU. hardware-wise it seems to work again. can anybody help? greetings from hoher flaming, burkie PS: great spell checker! Modprobe is a hardware tool... I have no idea what the problem is, what cpu did you have in and what cpu do you have in at the moment? aka celeron and now maybe a p4?

in my initial mail i forgot to say that i managed with a debian (started from CD-ROM; knoppix) to change and delete those *.conf files greetings, burkie |
