Read and Write permission

Hi,

I used to be able to run this file, clustalw-mpi.
But there's always error with its output.
I was told that It might have been because of the su i'm using didn't have write permission to the file.
So I tried to grant it permission.
But I guess I did it the wrong way and now all I get when I try to run it is permission denied.
Can anyone tell me the command to grant all write, read and whatever permission to my su?

Thanks in advances.

Unhappy Another problem

I'm trying to run mpiblast when this error occurred:

mv: cannot stat '/root/blast/ecoli.ntf07YxQ': No such file or directory
cp: cannot create regular file '/root/blast/ecoli.nt.00.nhr': Permission denied
cp: cannot create regular file '/root/blast/ecoli.nt.00.nin': Permission denied
cp: cannot create regular file '/root/blast/ecoli.nt.00.nsq': Permission denied
cp: cannot create regular file '/root/blast/ecoli.nt.00.nnd': Permission denied
cp: cannot create regular file '/root/blast/ecoli.nt.00.nnni': Permission denied
cp: cannot create regular file '/root/blast/ecoli.nt.00.nsd': Permission denied
cp: cannot create regular file '/root/blast/ecoli.nt.00.nsi': Permission denied
Error opening /root/blast/ecoli.ntf07YxQ.nal

Does this means that I do not have the permission to write in folder /root/blast?
But i've tried to chmod 777 /root/blast and this error is still occurring, anyone knows what may be the reason?

Thanks
