re: Mini-Me/PCLOS issues: VPN, firewall, limited repositories, browsers
Hi all,
Apols for the catch-all header. In 60 days I went from XP to XP/PCLOS 2007 dualboot to Mini-Me/PCLOS dual boot with DSL in tRAM. I want to stay here! I like PCLOS and the lighter Mini. I love DSL, especially in RAM. I also have some issues with them. One, I use Hotspots and combo ethernet/wifi at home. I need a VPN__free and simple is best. I have been sniffed at HotSpots while using XP__some www.GRC.com socket-closing apps, LooknStop firewall, and HotSpot Shield, [HSS], saved me. All of the above led me to Linux. I am at one with HSS for surfing. How close can I get to Hotspot shield with a PCLOS/MiniMe/DSL VPN solution for free or nearly so? I need to not have to command line all URLs. I am NOT at one with a keyboard. In MiniMe I cannot get Opera or Firefox from the repositories. I tried different ones and they were not there. I dont know how to install them otherwise in Linux. The MiniMe default firewall won't download for me; same with the default VPNs. I get errors, etc. If anyone could advise on any of this I would appreciate that. I am reading the relevant posts and following the links, but I need to get something implemented that I can ive with. Thanks again, fallsoff |
You should be able to install Firefox or Opera with the mini-me package manager I believe thaat it use the PClos repositories.

re: and thanksHi, and thanks foir the rteply. I tried the reporsirtories several tigs
Hi, and thanks for the reply,
I tried the repositories several times. The installer did not produce them. As I recall, I 'found' Opera and firefox, but was unable to actually get them from the installer. I forget the error messages right now. Give me a day or two to get reloaded, and I will try again and take better notes on the error messages. I am having a hip replaced and this is an awkward time. Thanks, fallsoff |
