re-installing python from gentoo liveCD after unmerge
trying to update firefox using emerge -u
got an error message that dev-lang/python-2.3.6-r2 was blocking app-admin/python-updater-0.2 BUT the version I had installed wasn't 2.3.6-r2, it was 2.3.4-r1 so I couldn't emerge --clean this pkg took a chance and removed the offending package with emerge --unmerge (yes, I know I ignored the warning that this could damage my system, but it worked for a different package, same error, so I took a chance) now I have no python, cant emerge anything. I get the error /usr/bin/emerge: /usr/bin/python: bad interpreter: no such file or directory. so, I need to emerge python, but cant emerge anything since I dont have python. Is there any way of copying ALL the necessary files (I assume there are a lot) from my liveCD which Im currently running, onto my actual system? or is the damage irrepairable, as I fear? should have known better than to try something risky like that, but your help is much appreciated! |
