Here’s something I learned long ago that I find quite handy:

You can stop the boot process by pressing the Pause key while the BIOS screen is visible. Once you do this you can take as long as you like to insert the live boot Linux disk. After you insert the disk and close the drawer you may press any key to resume booting.
