raid drivers?

I am trying to install slackware 10 onto a western digital 80 gig SATA hard drive. I have the drive partitioned into 2 40 gig sections with XP on one, and the other is where I want to install linux. do I need to create a boot disk for slackware to recognize the drive? and what boot image is appropriate for my hard disk?

I'm a little confused about "raid drivers" unless you mean that the hard drive is commected through a RAID chip. If that is the case, if your BIOS can recognize it (which it can since I assume you can boot windows) then you shoulkd no problem booting off of it. You will just have to make sure the drivers are compile din the kernel.

As far as boot image goes - I have never used slack so I would say the boot the boot image you create when you compile your kernel? or the boot image slack creates when it compiles your kernel.

There is not such thing as a RAID chip. I do not like companies stating IDE controllers as RAID chips because they are not. The chip that does all the RAID work is the main CPU or an embedded processor.

I do not know if Slackware has SATA support compiled in the kernel. If it does not use a PATA hard drive and copy the files after you compiled the kernel.
