Did you enable DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) in your kernel? If so, disable the DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) in your kernel (Device Drivers --> Character Devices --> DRM), recompile it and then try building and loading the module again.

Thx for reply.

You were right the problem of "FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.11-gentoo-r6/video/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted" is solved by your suggestion.

But I'm back to the problem of 12 hours before..
"After the inital boot of Gentoo it starts kde, I can login, KDE starts up and hangs on 'restoring panels 0%"

My xdm.log gives again:
---
/etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0: line 25: cd: /usr/share/config/kdm: No such file or directory
xdm error (pid 5750): Trouble getting network interface configuration
xdm error (pid 5750): Trouble getting network interface configuration

Thumbs up Radeon X300 problem [solved]

I have my ATI drivers unmerged and kernel re-compiled, used ATI driver as module. NOW IT WORKS!!!!

I followed the following guide http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-282983.html but it is almost equal to http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ATI_Drivers the only difference was the unmerge of ATI-drivers.

My kernel is compiled as follows;

Device Drivers --> Graphics Support --> ATI Radeon driver support --> as module
Device Drivers --> Character Devices --> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support) --> as module
Device Drivers --> Character Devices --> ATI chipset support --> as module

Followed the normal steps of emerge ATI-drivers, setup of xorg.conf with fglrxconfig, adapted the xorg.conf manually and now it works fully! Apparently the problem was that the ATI-drivers were compiled into the kernel instead of using it as modules.

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS for all help and input.

What the...?

I think I am going to sleep again and will continue posting tomorrow.

Congratulations and try bzflag with your new working driver, maybe not a good benchmark for it's simplicity but very funny.

And why I am always redirected to the begin of the post with those micro-buttons as only information about the thread continue???
