HELLO!!! YOUR PROBLEM IS NOT URGENT!!! NOR DOES IT REQUIRE CAPS!!!

Now, that the yelling is over, perhaps you could tell us why specifically you want to install that particular driver, what you have tried so far, and most importantly exactly what video device you have.

The video device can be found in the output of the following command. Please run it in a terminal and cut and paste the out into the forum.

Code:
lspci | grep -i vga
Cheers,

Evo2.

you can download it from ati.amd.com, just select your hardware (there is a find a driver window top right). I could also install it myself, just read the wiki.

I have Dedian Squeeze installed on my Asus k53u notebook, but i can't install the proprietary AMD driver.

My driver shipset is AMD Radeon HD 6320.

# lspci | grep -i vga
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 9806

The free-driver seens to not work in this shipset yet. I don't no...

I go to this link: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Debian

I do:

$ cd ~/; mkdir catalyst12.3; cd catalyst12.3/
$ wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/am...x86.x86_64.run
$ chmod +x amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run
$ fakeroot sh amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg <package>

... but it don't install or created package!!

Hi,

Quote:
$ cd ~/; mkdir catalyst12.3; cd catalyst12.3/
$ wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/am...x86.x86_64.run
$ chmod +x amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run
$ fakeroot sh amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg <package>
Hmm, it looks like "<package>" should be replaced with something. Can you post the output of the
commands?

Hello,

yes i replaced <package> to Debian/stable.

Like in: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Debian

The output command is:

# fakeroot sh amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Debian/stable

Created directory fglrx-install.fsTDnF
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing AMD Catalyst(TM) Proprietary Driver-8.951............................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ................................................

Generating package: Debian/stable
cp: cannot stat `/root/catalyst12.3/fglrx-install.fsTDnF/x710/*': No such file or directory
Package build failed!

Hi,

it is trying to write files to directories that should only be writeable by root. Are you doing this as root?

Hi,

looking again at post #8, there are no errors reported. Are you sure that the installation failed.

Also note that in post #7 your appear to be running the command under fakeroot, not actually as root (unless that is what the "#" is indicating). If you really are using root you should not need fakeroot (and it may even cause problems).

Hi Evo2,

I did this,

root@3426675876:~/catalyst12.3# sh amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Debian/stable
Created directory fglrx-install.S1amYF
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing AMD Catalyst(TM) Proprietary Driver-8.951............................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ................................................

=====================================================================
Generating package: Debian/stable
cp: cannot stat `/root/catalyst12.3/fglrx-install.S1amYF/x710/*': No such file or directory
Package build failed!

And This:

root@3426675876:~/catalyst12.3# ./amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run
Created directory fglrx-install.GGVeyd
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing AMD Catalyst(TM) Proprietary Driver-8.951............................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ................................................
=====================================================================
AMD Catalyst(TM) Proprietary Driver Installer/Packager

X Server: X.Org 6.9 or later 64-bit
See /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log for installation details.
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.GGVeyd

And nothing is installed i verified that!

# is like $ in any unix system.

Like:
root@3426675876:~/catalyst12.3#

Thanks You

Hi,

I'm at a dead end. Without any log files or more detailed error messages there is nothing much I can do.
Have you tried following the instructions at http://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo ?

Just use the squeeze-backports repository, it has the Catalyst 12.3 drivers.
