It doesn't really matter, as long as you remember that you may have a limit on the number of ACTUAL partitions you have on the drive. In many cases, you have to make three normal partitions, and one more logical or extended partition. This extended partition can contain any number of logical or pseudo-partitions. Also, the boot code often must be in the first several sectors of the disk so the bios can find it.
Note that I haven't messed with this for a long time...not since I discovered virtual machines and the joy they bring, so my information is probably outdated by a long way.
