question on NFS and mountd interaction

Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have a question on NFS and mountd interaction. Pls let me know where to post this question.

The question I have is :
when a client requests for the root file handle of the mount point from mountd. Does mountd generate the file handle or does NFS server generates and gives it to mountd ? If mountd generates the file handle, how does NFS server learn about this root file handle ?

thanks
kavitha

This sounds a lot like a homework question that I had not too long ago. In the spirit of education, I'll let you educate yourself but guide you to this link:
