question about "sound support" and editing /etc/modules.conf

I am running RedHat v.4, and am having difficulties with step #2 and step #4 in the installation process of a Realtek sound card. First off, I do not know where one turns on sound support. And secondly, I can't edit /etc/modules.conf because it isn't to be found. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm assuming you're talking about RedHat Enterprise Linux. If that is the case, it uses the 2.6 kernel, and that series of the Linux kernel, they changed the name from /etc/modules.conf to /etc/modprobe.conf.
