question about slackware, gxine, and the wmvdmod.dll
I'm having troubles playing some movie types in gxine. I have read up on this and most people said just download the library file and stuff it in /usr/lib/win32. Well i didnt have the dir so i made one and dumped it in there. There was still no luck. Im assuming this is a distro related program as i have heard the method i tried above works for MEPIS and debian. Is there anything i can do with slackware besides using mplayer (i would kind of like to keep gxine) ?

If it truly is simply a codec issue, download this:
ftp://ftp1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rele...050412.tar.bz2 Then extract it to a directory ( /usr/lib/win32 is fine) Open gxine - file - preferences - "experience level" change to atleast 'advanced' Then click the 'decoder' tab - and make sure the "win32_codecs_path" says /usr/lib/win32 (or where ever you extracted the codecs too). Good luck & Slack on! -tw p.s. - if it matters to you, I keep them (codecs) in /usr/local/lib/codecs/ - as that is where the codecs are looked for when compiling mplayer. AND - as a fellow Slack user, I can say, I use mplayer & gxine about equally - both without problems - so YES, you can keep your gxine. |
Is it normal that this download should be taking a very long time? Im using wget and the ETA ranges anywhere from 6-16+ hours.
Answer (for other users): The above link went super slow, I went to http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/codecs.html and then clicked on "all", it downloaded within two minutes also using wget. |

I see I'm above 500 post now, but keep in mind, the first 300+ were me ASKING the questions. I now pop in from time to time to see if I can answer some. Sometimes I get lucky, sometimes not so much. But lets see what we can do here. First off, what is the error your getting? You have yet to post it. I just thought of the codecs becuase you mentioned "...most people said just download the library file and stuff it in /usr/lib/win32..." and thats where the codecs go. Also, to answer your other question regarding the mplayer skin, I use "Corelian" as my defualt, and sometimes "Blue" - I know....real exotic, huh? :p So, the error is? Also, what are you trying to play? Post a link so that I or others can try it and compare our results? -tw |
Wow I cant believe i didnt put this in the first post.. I must have been thinking it. The error is "Error loading library: wmvdmod.dll" Gxine says all of this for the tried video file details [ASF {res} MS WMV 9 (win32) 407 kbit/s 65 kbit/s MS Windows Media Audio (ffmpeg)]
However some video files that give me the same info, (but diff bit rates) DO play in gxine. So im a little confused. As far as posting the video.. It's not really suitable for all eyes and we will leave it at that, and keep the forum clean. |
