QM_MODULES & mod init tools 3.0 problems

Hi There,

I am running Mandrake 9.1

I have compiled succesfully kernel 2.6.5

I cannot get my modules to work. 'Kernel Module Support' is enabled in the kernel. Everytime I try to use insmod it brings back and error :
QM_MODULES: Function not implemented

From searching around I gathered that I have to install module-init-tools.

I have download module-init-tools 3.0 and tried to compile them. I get an error at the end saying :
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lc
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [insmod.static] Error 1

I can go no further, and the tools won't install.

Please can someone help me on this...

Thanks in Advance.

I would get module-init-tools-3.0 precompiled, if you need them.
You shouldve compiled and installed module-init-tools first.

How do you mean I should have compiled them first ? before I compiled my new kernel ?

I booted up with my old kernel and tried compiling them that way and they came back with the same error.

What is ld ? can I get another version of it and compile a newer one ?

I have also searched everywhere to find out what /usr/bin/lc does, so I could get a newer version and update it.

I also understand that getting a precompiled version of the mod init tools might sort it out, but I want to know why this is happening and how I can fix it for future reference.
