Python modules(lib-dynload) are too big in size

Hi,

Recently I have compiled python 2.6.5 on ubuntu "hardy" 8.04. The script was as simple as it could be:
Code:
./configure --enable-shared
make
make install
This successfully compile and install python and also make it default one. The problem is that all the libs in lib-dynload directory are too big in term of file size. They are around 4.5-5.0 mb each. I tried stripping out info by using command:
Code:
strip --strip-all *.so
It strips info from libs but still file size of all the modules is not less then 1.5-1.6 mb. I have no clue why this is happening.

Any pointers will greatly be appreciated.

Cheers

Prashant

cd /usr/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/
&& sudo strip *.so

Should be about 3 MB total for all 72 ? files.

In my case, 63 items, 107 MB.

I have no idea how to resolve this.
