Putting icons on the desktop
 
I recently downloaded Wolfenstein: ET and Mozilla Firebird and I was wondering how I could actually put a desktop icon for those programs. I know the question sounds a bit newbish but I am actually a newb :)

I am using Fedora Core 1 as my current distrobution.

If you are using KDE then right click on a blank area of the desktop. A menu will pop up. Click on Create new. Click on link to application. This will give you a multi page form to fill out to create the new desktop icon. You select the actual icon you want to use by clicking on the icon button on the first page of the multi page form.

Gnome uses a similar sequence with somewhat different menus.
