Proud Person I am.
I am very proud of myself. Thanks to several people who helped me I have finnaly got a Redhat 9 system running on my old computer(first distro i used). the Graphical interface is nice. Now on to my question(s).
1. What programming languages are there for linux that I can use? 2. Where are some execellent programming sites using languages on linux? I dont want a website I can find on google.com because most of them are not execellent, they are usually pretty crappy, or at least from what I have seen for languages on windows based systems. 3. What programs do I already have installed with RedHat 9? I chose the "Workstation Installation" because I want to learn to program and make software. Thanks for the info guys ahead of time. Tuul |
1. perl, eiffel, java, ruby, python, c, c++, fortran, cobol, basic, php, tcl, ml, awk and about 1000 others.
2. plenty around. we're launching programmignquestions.org soon... but i normally just hit google. 3. you'll want to install the developement tools section for c ompilers etc... |

If there is not a GCC front end for the language, then there is usually a port of a specific compiler out there. 2. Try asking questions on the programming forum here. 3. Should have at least GCC which covers C. It is likely you also have a frontend/compiler for C++, C@, and java there too. Redhat should have a package manager you can check to see what packages got installed to see though. |
