This is more than likely a known issue, but...

Clean install, everything goes well. Shutdown for the night, come back from work and boot up.

Seems to go well until it tries to switch from the prompt into the GUI. Screen changes (monitor clicks while switching display modes)......<brief pause>.....switches back to prompt mode for half a second and again tries to switch the display.

This loops until I use the three finger salute and reboot.

I know, I am a n00b, but I know there is a work around, I just don't see it. Any help is appreciated.

pay attention for lines with (EE) marker

Look at the thread - Caught in the LOOP, had a very similar prompt to GUI looping problem, still working on some snags but X11 is back up and running.
