Can anyone suggest a project related to network virtualization for videostreaming?

What hardware have you access to? That will limit what you can do.

Here's an idea to start you thinking. Raspberry pi uses an arm CPU, which is short of cpu power for a flash plugin. Netflix uses silver light. How about a windows VM running flash & asilverlight streaming to one or many raspberry pis perhaps via the Linux box. Remove the disadvantage of surfing with open source software.
