Smile Programs For newbies

Hi yet again all,

This day three for my adventure into the linux OS system and I think I have all the basics down, now it is time to get some good programs. What programs would be really good to have? I've tried to install Wine, but it said I required other programs to compile it. Does anyone know what I need to compile Wine? And what are some really good programs for linux (I already have a media player, but it can't play .asf files)?

Search this site for 'wine' and 'winex'; there's tons of info. Also, try searching http://justlinux.com and http://tinyminds.org.

The official WINE site is http://www.winehq.org

For a very comprehensive list of linux applications, including multimedia, try:
http://debianlinux.net
