Programs Don't open with Flux on Slack 10.0

Hi everyone. I am not sure whether this could be termed as a unique problem... (at least every problem i come across is always unique to me). I am total newbie to linux and after 3 years of refraining from it, i finally gathered some strength to revisit Linux and learn it. So far... patience has been the key.
A week ago... i had boot problems... fixed that ... later wireless network probs... fixed that......(OOOH I LOVE EDITING THOSE .CONF FILES)

So here is the new prob: I start fluxbox and when i try to run (click on the prog name from the right click menu) 'mozilla' or 'netscape' or 'abiword' or a couple of other progs...nothing happens. Programs like '<some>clock' or calculator work.

I know i installed the mozilla package and abiword during installation. Is it a broken link or..??? Pls help.

Thanks

Check out your menu file in /home/user/.fluxbox/menu. Make sure it is setup correctly. The file is pretty self explanitory but make sure Mozilla Firefox is set to whatever you would type in a terminal to get firefox to run(i.e. 'firefox'). Also, depending on the version of fluxbox you are using you may have to restart fluxbox in order for the changes to your menu file to take effect.

Hi there. Thanks for the response. I looked in to the menu file and everything seems fine. I am just wondering what could be wrong? (hope its not a re-install - i have promised myself that i shall fix every prob that opting for a re-install :()

Any other suggestions people?

Thanks

Aaah. found some thing. Hehe..
I typed 'mozilla' in xterm and it gives me this error:
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.7/mozilla-bin:error while loading shared libraries: libtak-1.0.so,0: canot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Tell me my installation is screwed up ?? :(

Did you type this or is it a copy&paste?

I've never heard of a library libtak, and my mozilla certainly
hasn't been linked against it ...

If it's a typo, and you actually meant libatk it's something
you may not have installed. It's in /package/slackware/l/atk-1.6.1-i486-1.tgz
on your 1st CD ...

As for other menu-entries that don't work: Volker doesn't
take care of the menu-file in fluxbox, it comes with the
defaults that the developer used. It's quite possible that
things aren't installed on your machine at all, or maybe
in different locations.

Cheers,
Tink

Just out of curiosity, what were your wireless problems? I'm having wireless problems right now, and I was wondering if you could help a fellow newb =)

Hi Joe. My wireless network problem was very similar to the one numerous users have had and it was actually discussed in one of the threads @ the networking forum at LQ.
However, the main problem was that the network card was failing to obtain an ip address. The interface (eth1 in my case) had all the parameters right, i.e:
ESSID, The channel to scan, etc.
As per the tip on a thread, i reaized that i had two network cards on both the PCMCIA slots, one being wireless and the other wireline. So i issued: "ifconfig eth1 down" command, and then restarted the computer (plugged out the wireline card) after the PCMCIA slot were shutdown.
Then after reboot, i issued the command "iwconfig" with the parameters for the ESSID, and i believe i followed that command with "/sbin/iwconfig". Rebooted and the card collected the ipaddress on boot.

I honestly feel i may have typed some needless commands (/sbin/iwconfig) etc etc, but i remember someone saying that you had to issue that command for the configuration to be stored. I am a linux noob and so my workaround may not hold 'class'. :) But it worked and me = happy with 'links' as my mozilla = NO WORK. :(

As for the question asked about whether i typed the error message or otherwise, i actually did type it and it is likely that there was a typo. My bad. Shall carry out the action as per your suggestion and post the results.

Thanks
