Post proftpd help from ground up. (user permissions)

hi all,

using linux for a few months now as a web dev.. its great.
so i've been trying to get proftpd running on a centOS server,
so far i've managed: -

1.to get it up and running as a standalone server
2.created a ftpuser group and assigning a user to it
3.instructed proftpd to use "ftpuser" usergroup as users

Now i'd need help in doing these,

-so far the users when logged into the ftp may run around all over the server, how do i restrict them to their own folder? chroot?

-i would like the "ftpuser" group to be able to read / write to a folder mainly to the "/var/www" folder.

-how do i configure proftpd so that the "/var/www" folder will appear to which ever user that logs into the ftpserver?

-any security issues i should be aware off?

thanks in advance.
any help or links to tutorials would be very much apprieciated!

It's been a long time since I did this, but you need to chroot to ~ if memory serves in the global area of the config.

As for showing /var/www there's another option to allow following symlinking you can add to the global conf area and then just put a ln -s /var/www in each home directory.

Sorry it's a bit sketchy, if you get really stuck shout back and I'll look them up but the examples are or used to all be on the ProFTPd website along with the documentation.
