profiles for users
hi friends...
suppose i have 2 users on my linux machine supppose i want one of them to always use firefox only and no other application... is it possible to that?? |
no they can always install software in their home folder and use that software.
if you mean that you have system wide browsers....you can change the permissions of the relevant one to disable their rwx permission to that browser |

Hi,
If you change the shell entry in the /etc/passwd file to point to firefox (full path and executable), firefox should be started when that user logs in (instead of giving him/her a shell) and after closing Firefox the user should be logged out. So change /bin/bash to /usr/bin/firefox. I say 'should' cause I haven't tried this with a gui based program. It does work with non-gui based scripts/executables. Hope this helps. |

Hi,
If access to a shell is not wanted you can use rvim instead of vim. It is a restricted version of vim that does not allow starting a shell, using shell commands and suspending. Hope this helps. |
