Procmail and IFS

Following someone's advice in this forum I decided to implement procmail. I followed several tutorials. Within my .forward file I have the following:

"|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #root"

The problem occurs when I email root from within the system. Without the .forward file root receives the email without a problem. With the .forward file I get the following in the mail logs:

Jul 27 16:22:09 internalweb smrsh: uid 8: attempt to use "IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #root" (stat failed)
Jul 27 16:22:09 internalweb sendmail[18512]: n6RKM9Mn018512: to="|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #root", ctladdr=<root@localhost.localdomain> (0/0), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=prog, pri=31566, dsn=5.0.0, stat=Service unavailable
Jul 27 16:22:09 internalweb sendmail[18512]: n6RKM9Mn018512: n6RKM9Mo018512: return to sender: Service unavailable
Jul 27 16:22:09 internalweb smrsh: uid 8: attempt to use "IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #root" (stat failed)
Jul 27 16:22:09 internalweb sendmail[18512]: n6RKM9Mo018512: to="|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #root", ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=prog, pri=32590, dsn=5.0.0, stat=Service unavailable
Jul 27 16:22:09 internalweb sendmail[18512]: n6RKM9Mn018512: Losing ./qfn6RKM9Mn018512: savemail panic
Jul 27 16:22:09 internalweb sendmail[18512]: n6RKM9Mn018512: SYSERR(root): savemail: cannot save rejected email anywhere

I just wanted to try out a simple procmail configuration. But I can't get past this part. Any help???

I just stumbled over your post and although it is a couple of days that you wrote it, I hope you can use the answer anyway.

I tried the same thing with the same result. I then remembered the KISS principle and reduced the line in .forward to
Code:
|/usr/bin/procmail -f-
and then it worked.

Regards,

Bent
