The easy way is to use cedega. If you don't want to do that then it's going to require some google work... I've been using linux and wine for many years, but I still game with cedega coz it's better...

I've about googled myself out...........LOL. My only option now are forums. There are two things that I'm looking for: 1) What those error codes mean. OR 2) Some fresh ideas that I may not have thought of, excluding Cadega or anything that costs money. I'm keeping my Linux system free and that is all there is too it. I don't mind the extra aggravation, I'm trying to learn. Thanks.

I know that the files in the error dialogue ends with the .cpp extension. I know that is a C++ file. Perhaps during the update something is not compiling? I believe those files are files that are coming from Steam during the update. And that they are not agreeing with possibly the registry (according to Mara) because the file ends with Win32Registry.cpp. I know a little bit about the registry but I haven't a clue where to go with this. I'm going to take another look at the registry and see if I can figure out something. I'm not going to copy my windows registry but I am going to compare the two in regards to Steam. If anybody has any ideas (EXCLUDING Cadega : ) please let me know. If you need more info, just ask. Thanks.

Yeah, sorry, I'm not that worried about free and non-free software. I use whatever I need, and that includes a few commercial apps and whatever I need to make a nice working desktop...

From what I have read, if you don't use cedega or crossover replacements, then the solution usually involves copying dll's from a windows installation, which I'm not sure is totally free or legal either...

As for the WINE registry, that is a couple of plain text files, so you shouldn't have any trouble working with that. You can't really copy one from windows though as they are different.

Are there any WINE forums? I think there are. They might offer some more help as well...

I have a dual boot system so who's to know that I've copied a few .dll files from one system to another? If that's the case, then where do I find the info regarding the .dll files requiered for Steam? I'm pretty sure that I've been through the wine forum but I'll double check. I may start a thread or join one as well. I've seen theis problem pop up quite commonly. The funny thing is that most of them are in other countries written in a foriegn language.....LOL. Does Firefox have the ability to interpret a foriegn language? IE6 can, right? Well, I'm going to go check in on the wine forum. Thanks.
