Problems with Wine
 

Alright. So a friend of mine helped me install Linux Fedora after my computer Blue-screened on Windows XP and I've been running it for about a day now. Well, he told me that Wine would be a good program so that I could get World of Warcraft running again on my computer. So, I installed wine and followed instructions to get Gecko working with Wine as well. I installed World of Warcraft and it booted up just fine, the launch screen came up right and I thought I had it taken care of.

I launched the game and Wine+Gecko did something odd. It flipped the background of the game, kept all the buttons and entry fields where they were supposed to go and froze my computer. I reset the computer and tried it again, it did the same thing. Anybody know how to fix this?

Personally I don't play WoW, so I can't help much more than this.

Alright, thanks for the reply. I checked and there's a new version of wine (1.1.3) and I installed it, but my wine configuration still says that I have 1.0. How do I get it to run 1.1.3 because that should solve my problem for good.

I just did that after reading it. It didn't seem to fix the problem.

did you click the install button then look under games for WOW and click apply?

Alright, I found it, but something went wrong. I'm typing the exact error message followed by what it gave me when I asked for more details.

That's the error message and details. I'm going to search those programs, but could someone provide a link here just in case. Please and thank you.

I just found wxPythonGTK. When I tried to download it, this error message came up:

Try this bring up the terminal and switch to root. Type "cd /etc/yum.repos.d" "wget http://mulx.net/fedora/playonlinux.repo" both commands without"". And then post back.

Alright, it says it downloaded successfully and I've found the stuff after that. Now I can't find the button that lets me apply the playonlinux settings to WoW. If someone could post instructions as to how I can do that, it should solve this problem once and for all. *knock on wood*

Click the start menu and run command then type "playonlinux" without quotes"".Or open a terminal in normal user and type "playonlinux"

So the entire command line in the launcher should be:

playonlinux "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\launcher.exe"

And I tried the second one and it said there was no such command as:

playonlinux

When I brought it up in Terminal.

In terminal playonlinux. If there is no such command then it is not installed correctly. I hate to say it but fedora is probably not the best for someone just starting out. You may want to try opensuse 11,Mandriva 2008,or PCLinuxOS. The package managers are already set up so it's simple to install just about anything you need.
By installed correctly that means that you have the playonlinux.rpm and all it's dependencies. Which are other rpm packages that will help to run playonlinux like Wine.But as far as the program goes it is self explanatory you just add and then choose any game of your choice and it sets up wine and downloads all the fonts and other crap WOW needs.
