Question Problems with using yum command


1]. have a fedora 9 installed on my machine

2] trying to install a software xinetd

3] used the yum command and got the following error

[root@localhost globus]# yum install xinetd
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...ra-9&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary failure in name resolution')>
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again

what should i do??
am shown the same message with every yum command!!!

hi

check if your server is resolving names

try ping www.google.co.za or any dns name and see if it resolves
also do a dig www.google.co.za

if it is then do a yum clean all and try again

if it is not resolving check /etc/resolve.conf and possibly make it nameserver 127.0.0.1
or get some dns servers

Even the mirror could be down. There is this possibility as Fedora 9 is too old and might not have all the mirrors working.

F10 & 11 are the only 'current' Fedoras, so the repo has probably gone.
